JOB SUMMARY

 

This Position is Open Only to Current ADOT Employees

The Transportation Engineering Specialist under the general direction of the Assistant District Engineer or designee performs work of considerable difficulty related to the review, development and delivery of the Highway Construction program. Within established parameters related to area of assignment, determines accuracy and completeness of plans

and specifications. Refer issues to the appropriate Engineer for engineering determinations. Monitors district construction program to endure all projects are on schedule and ready for advertisement.

 

 

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

·         Principles and practices of civil engineering related to the construction/maintenance of state highway

road systems

·         Construction inspection methods, procedures and techniques

·         Construction materials testing procedures

·         Plan and specification review

·         Construction process and requirements

·         Good management techniques and how to apply them

·         Procedures and techniques for the use of the Departments automated systems

Skills in:

·         Work scheduling and management

·         Analysis and preparation of data

·         Written and verbal communication

·         Operation of equipment for completion of assigned duties

Ability to:

·         Plan, organize, supervise, inspect and evaluate complex highway operation problems

·         Develop and implement work standards; prepare clear and concise records, reports and other written

materials

·         Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines

·         Establish and maintain effective relationships with external and internal customers

 

 

  PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Four years experience in inspecting minor highway construction/maintenance projects or hot mix and concrete plants or performing administrative or advanced engineering and construction records maintenance or related duties; or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or a closely related profession may be substituted for the required experience.

 PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

 

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.  Candidates for this position must complete page 7 and sign the Driver Form on page 8 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).  The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).  The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.  Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
