JOB SUMMARY:

This position conducts high profile, complex and sensitive investigations related to allegations of criminal child abuse and neglect.  Through competent investigations, we protect and ensure the safety of children, including proper placement.  Specifically, we are seeking individuals with experience in the investigation of crimes against children.  Note:  Relevant experien ce must be evident in your resume in order to be considered.

 

Caseload per investigator may vary depending on number of filled positions.  Current average caseload per investigator is 11.   

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Assesses, responds to and investigates criminal conduct reports, in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, generated by the Child Abuse Hotline

-          Conducts interviews, collects documents and records interactions in the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information Systems

-          Testifies in court regarding child welfare investigations

-          Assists on cases involving allegations of child abuse resulting in serious injury or death; provides assistance related to strategies and techniques used when performing sensitive investigations of child abuse and neglect

-          Attends a variety of meetings to include high profile staffing

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Arizona Law related to special victims, forensics, homicide, domestic violence, missing persons or a closely related law enforcement unit

-          Multidisciplinary approach including Child and Family Advocacy Centers

-          Child Welfare Practices

-          Policies pertaining to abuse and neglect of children

-          Conducting high profile, complex and sensitive investigations

Skill in:

-          Verbal and written communication

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Working with public relations

-          Interviewing children and family members

-          Training investigative techniques

-          Identifying criminal or neglect and abuse in an investigation

-          Preparing reports

-          Working with diverse groups and individuals

-          Documenting investigations

-          Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution

 

Ability to:

-          Identify, analyze, deescalate and resolve highly confrontational situations

-           Share and enhance the understanding of investigate techniques

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S): 

Requires the possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

 

Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.

 

Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card.

Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the CPS Central Registry.

 

Must be able to clear a criminal background check through State and Federal agencies. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

-          Law enforcement/Detective/Investigative experience specializing in crimes against children and sex crimes; OR

-          Three (3) years of experience as a DCS Specialist (Investigations) with the Arizona Department of Child Safety

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing an extensive background investigation through State and Federal agencies.
