JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for planning and directing the work of subordinate staff and inmate crews and is routinely involved in general facility maintenance and construction.

JOB DUTIES: 

-        Supervises, plans, and directs the activities of subordinates and inmate crews

-        Reads blueprints, performs material take-offs, cost estimates and written bid specifications

-        Calculates cost estimates for maintenance/construction projects, while working within budget constraints

-        Establishes and carries out preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment, mechanical equipment and facility maintenance activities

-        Maintains records on all equipment/tools, repairs, and preventative maintenance

-        Completes related documentation

-        Drives on State business

-        Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

 

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-        Supervisory principles and techniques, including employee relations and work scheduling

-        Structural issues regarding building and utility services, to include blueprints and safety practices and codes

-        All trades, i.e., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general building and preventative maintenance

-        Budgetary issues including estimating costs and ordering of materials

-        Basic computer skills and software, e.g., Microsoft Excel and Word

-        National and local building codes

 

Skill in:

-        Organization and scheduling of maintenance repairs and Preventative Maintenance Program for the facility

-        Time management and organization

-        Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-        Written and verbal communication

 

Ability to:

-        Work in a prison environment

-        Demonstrate use of common and specialized tools, equipment and materials

-        Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and schematics

-        Demonstrate methods and practices of preventative maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

-        One year experience equivalent to a Building Maintenance Specialist, or two years equivalent to a Building Maintenance Technician II, or any combination of training and experience

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test* and a medical/physical examination.
