We are seeking an Environmental Scientist Specialist to join our team. The individual in this role, engages in developing, planning, leading, executing, and sustaining projects and program to reduce air pollution in Arizona’s non-attainment and near non-attainment areas for criteria air pollutants. You be will using structured Project Management knowledge and skills, to get work done through others, by leading projects and problem solving events, to achieve the outcome of improving air quality in Arizona. You will use air quality data to determine correlations between data, human activities and environmental effects with peer or management review; and calculate and determine environmental risk potential for environmental projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Environmental science/resource management/studies, sustainability or earth science
  • Level 1- Requires 0-1 experience.
  • Level 2 –Requires 2 years’ experience. Professional “in-training” Certification preferred if available through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent organization in a reciprocal jurisdiction.
  • Level 3 -  Requires 5 years’ experience(Master’s degree in related field can substitute for 2 years’ experience, and doctorate in related field can substitute for 4 years’ experience)
  • Level 4 – Requires 8 years’ experience (Master’s degree in related field can substitute for 2 years of experience, Doctorate in related field can substitute for 4 years of experience).
  • Level 3 & 4 - Professional registration through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent organization in a reciprocal jurisdiction required if available. If not available, professional certification through an accredited institution is required.
  • Knowledge of project and program management and coordination processes, tools, and techniques. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certificate preferred, but not required.
  • Strong leadership and problem solving skills, accountability, initiative and team work, excellent time management, and ability to mentor/teach/guide.
  • Knowledge of Agency policies and processes, State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, environmental research, investigation techniques and statistical analysis
  • Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statues; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication.
  • Solid public spending and presentation skills and able to work with many types of people and organizations.
  • Requires intermediate to advance knowledge of Excel, basic to intermediate knowledge of Visio and an understanding of metrics and how to display and update data.
