JOB SUMMARY:

The Museum Curator will be responsible for creating, coordinating, and managing all educational programming for the Arizona Historical Society (AHS) in accordance with local directives, and in conjunction and cooperation with the AHS Education Administrator. This position will serve as the representative on the AHS Education Committee, led by the AHS Education Administrator. The Museum Education Curator  will be responsible for the development of tour curricula, gallery guides and tour content, teacher workshops, outreach, speakers, and other educational programming as needed. This includes providing input for exhibit content as it relates to educational themes and programming. You will also be responsible for cultivating partnerships within the educational community, and will seek partnerships within the senior and retirement community.

JOB DUTIES: 

Develop Comprehensive Educational Program

·       Increasing participation and revenue from Educational programs, through the creation, coordination, and management of all educational programing.

·       Developing and delivering school and adult tour curricula, gallery guides, and tour content and other educational programming as needed, including providing input for exhibit content as it relates to educational themes and programming.

·       Supervising AHS statewide museum education curators.

·       Assigning/scheduling assignments.

·       Approving leave and train accordingly.

Volunteer Tour Guide (Docent) Coordination

·        Recruiting, training, supervising, coordinating and scheduling volunteers to support Education Programming.

Assist with Arizona National History Day (NHD)

·        In cooperation with the AHS Education Administrator, this position will work closely with the Arizona NHD coordinator as needed, including, but not limited to, planning, research, delivery, and evaluation of NHD contests and programs.

Administrative Duties

·       Compilation and reporting of departmental data including attendance, revenue, and social media research of NHD programs and educational programming.

·       Assisting with the development and maintenance of the division’s database of education contacts.

·       Assisting with front desk and general public as needed

Social Media and Marketing

·       Developing and maintaining consistent messaging on appropriate webpages, write promotional descriptions, social media copy, and blog posts to increase awareness of AHS programmatic offerings and to promote NHD.

·       Planning and managing the delivery of NHD content through digital engagement accounts, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Grant Writing

·       Identifying and writing grants to support related operations and programs.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

·        And experience in developing and implementing format and informal educational programs in accordance with AZ.

·        State curriculum standards (social studies).

·        Arizona history.

·        Knowledge and experience writing grants.

·        Educational processes,

·        Theories and best practices .

Skill in:

·        MS Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

·        Oral and written communication.

·        Research.

Ability to:

·       Under changing priorities.

·       Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.

·       Speak and present to groups.
