The Department of Economic Security Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. This position is responsible in the provision of vocational counseling services to individuals with disabilities to address impediments to employment and gain the skills to enter, gain, or retain employment. May also serve as a technical advisor to lower level staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of Federal and State laws, statutes, rules, regulations pertaining to the provision of vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities

-          Knowledge of principles and practices of vocational rehabilitation, functional limitations imposed by a variety of disabilities

-          Knowledge of resources available in the community; occupational opportunities and labor market trends applicable to the community

-          Skills in caseload management; interviewing and eliciting information from clients

-          Skills in counseling persons with disabilities; providing information to a variety of individuals

-          Skills in resolving problems; motivating individuals to achieve goals and have effective oral and written communication

-          Skills in analyzing and interpret client physical or mental condition

-          Ability to prioritize work

-          Ability in effective utilization of resources; resolve issues; provide information to a variety of audiences

-          Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

-          Ability to analyze complex medical and psychological reports

Licenses and Certifications:

-          Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or field related to vocational rehabilitation (such as one that promotes the physical, psychosocial, or vocational well-being of individuals with disabilities) and one year experience, paid or unpaid, working with individuals with disabilities

-          Obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets DES requirements for Level One card

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.

-          Some assignments may require a current, valid Arizona Driver’s License; the position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate tot the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

Qualifications:

-          Bachelors or Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or field related to vocational rehabilitation (such as one that promotes the physical, psychosocial, or vocational well-being of individuals with disabilities) and one year experience, paid or unpaid, working with individuals with disabilities.

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.

-          AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets DES requirements for Level One card.

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
