The Department of Economic Security Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Direct Care Worker. This position requires an individual to coach, teach, mentor and provide direct support to members who have Developmental Disabilities (i.e., autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability or epilepsy) ranging from mild to profound. The majority of services are designed to meet personal needs of members in a 24-hour residential group home setting.

Flexibility schedule is a must (i.e., work different shift, overtime and change work locations) as these are 24-hour residential settings. Most schedules work nights, weekends and holidays.  

Base rate of pay is $11.44 per hour. Shift differential rates are paid for 2nd shift (5% increase, $12.01 per hour) and 3rd shift (10% increase, $12.58 per hour)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of planning processes;

-          Knowledge of providing personal care;

-          Knowledge of human rights;

-          Knowledge of cleaning and basic housekeeping;

-          Knowledge of cooking;

-          Skill in communicating with members verbally and/or through basic sign language (knowledge of or experience in American Sign Language is not required;

-          Skill in planning activities designated to meet specific needs of individual/members;

-          Skill participating in and implementing Individual Support Plans (ISP);

-          Skill in using the computer, including emails;

-          Skill in time and work management;

-          Ability to display compassion with respect to others;

-          Ability to attend staff training and apply the basic principles of program training and data collection designated to meet the specific needs of members including medication administration;

-          Ability to understand and follow spoken and written directions;

-          Ability to read and write in English;

-          Ability to learn and use computer systems (e.g. timesheet entry, computer-based trainings);

-          Ability to learn and apply basic physical, occupational, and speech therapy techniques;

-          Ability to learn and apply behavior support techniques;

-          Ability to drive a motor vehicle.

Licenses and Certifications:

-          Employee shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults, prior to the start of their employment;

-          If the position is required to drive on state business, the position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

Qualifications:

-          Candidate must be 18 years of age to apply;

-          Must be able to read and write in American English. 

-          Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and change work locations, when necessary

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

-          Candidate for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459 

-          Employment is contingent upon the ability to lift 50 pounds and pushing/pulling 50 pounds.
