ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST II

Grade 18

Hiring Range: $31,110.00 – $43,437.00

JOB SUMMARY & DUTIES

 

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is committed to providing the youth under our care and supervision with effective, efficient, and high quality rehabilitative and transformative services in support of our vision, mission, and values.

 

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist II to work under the direction of the Accounting Specialist Manager II. This person will be responsible for providing support to the Accounting unit.   

 

Duties include:

 

·         Ensures vendors are compensated for goods and services rendered by processing invoices for 3-way match.

·         Processes transactions for youth accounts including bi-weekly Work Incentive Pay Program (WIPP) time sheets.

·         Prepares checks and mail.

·         Arranges employee travel and submits monthly agency travel credit card log and receipts for review and approval for payment.

·         Processes all employee reimbursement requests.

·         Posts negotiables to appropriate accounts

·         Serves as backup to Payroll

·         Performs other duties as assigned 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

·         Federal and State law, Statutes and Regulations pertinent to area of assignment

·         Concepts, methods, techniques of general accounting and accounts payable process

·         State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM)

·         Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)

·         Financial and Accounting systems

·         Procurement systems

·         Report creation and preparation

·         Microsoft Word and Excel

·         Google email, and Google Suite

Skill in:  

·         Written and verbal communication

·         Establishing and maintaining work relationships

·         Conflict resolution

·         Mathematics

·         Analyzing and interpreting fiscal data

·         Planning and prioritizing

·         Computer software to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

·         Learn the state’s Automated Financial Information System (AFIS)

·         Apply general auditing and accounting processes

·         Learn agency and state policies and procedures, and organizational structure of the agency

·         Understand and participate in drafting, changing and modifying policy and procedure

·         Work under pressure and meet deadlines

·         Multi-task and problem solve

·         Drive on state business

·         Work in a correctional environment

·         Learn agency mission, goals, and objectives

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS

Requires possession of, and ability to retain, a current valid Arizona-issued drivers license.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license records checks, maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
