The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Habilitation Nurse 2. This position provides specialized nursing care for individuals with developmental disabilities requiring regular nursing care and specialized medical support to staff; completes required charting, reporting, and recommended health care plans; develops health education plans in specialty areas; ensures physicians’ orders are obtained, updated, and renewed with therapeutic interventions; acts as a consultant to peers and staff regarding treatment of member illness, rehabilitation needs, and preventive care; monitors assigned site for compliance with Department of Health standards; participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams; conducts ongoing quality assurance monitoring; and represents the medical component during Individual Support Plan(ISP) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.

-          General nursing theories and practices and those specifically related to nursing care for individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health issues (DDD).

-          Members’ condition and medical/physical/behavioral health changing care needs.

-          Interdisciplinary team planning process.

-          Services offered in community including primary health care providers.

-          Education material sources.

-           Division policies and procedures related to providing members services.

-          State Nurse Practice Act.

-          Division policies and procedures related to providing members services.

-          Title XIX federal regulations and licensing standards.

-          Various medical equipment.  

-          Observing and assessing health status and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.

-          Providing appropriate treatment in emergency situations.  

-          Interpersonal skills.

-          Oral and written communication, including effectively communicating technical information to members and families.

-          Computer skills.

-          Developing, analyzing, and implementing treatment care plans.

-          Making sound medical decisions.

-          Time management.

-          Effective problem solving.

-          Listen, observe, assess, and respond to medical emergencies.

-          Evaluate, analyze, make independent decisions, and follow up regarding member health problems.

-          Present training material in a clear and precise manner.

-          Respond to medical issues/inquiries in a professional manner.

-          Work with professional and non-professional staff to ensure health and safety of residents.

Licenses and Certifications:

-          Employment may be contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

-          Arizona Level 1 Clearance Card

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.

-          If the position is required to drive on state business, the position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate tot the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).


-          Required at the time of appointment possession of a current license or temporary permit to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona OR within six (6) months from date of hire, must possess of a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona.

-          The ideal preferred candidate will have at least 1 year experience in providing professional hands-on nursing services to individuals with developmental disabilities and least 1 year of experience in professional community nursing. 

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
