JOB SUMMARY:

The Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) is seeking a qualified individual to perform general mailroom duties at the ASPC - Eyman.

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Under general supervision, participates in collection, sorting and distribution of mail

-          Inspects mail for contraband according to department policy

-          Maintains certified, registered and legal mail logs

-          Responsible for accurate operation of postal machines and maintaining postage inventory

-          Prepares all packages for FedEx and/or UPS

-          Maintains confidential files in accordance with established department policies

-          Performs a variety of complex administrative tasks to include filing, record keeping, entry and tracking

-          Drives on State business

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Federal and State Laws and department policy regarding handling of mail

-          Mail services to determine most cost-efficient option

-          Metering, registering and certified mail

-          Filing and maintenance of records

-          Business English and mathematical calculations

Skill in:

-          Verbal and written communication

-          Record keeping and report generation

-          Maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Operating and maintaining office equipment and postal machines

-          Computer usage and various software programs (Microsoft Suite and Google Suite)

Ability to:

-          Work in a prison environment

-          Lift and carry mail

-          Maintain confidentiality

-          Time management techniques

-          Learn and adhere to department policies and procedures

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

-          High school diploma

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and drug test*.

RETIREMENT: 

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
