Job Description

The Laboratory Equipment Maintenance Technician will conduct routine and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. This role will include, but not limited to autoclaves, centrifuges, water purifiers, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, fume hood, Bio-Safety cabinets and commercial dish washers. The individual in this role will ensure all work orders are addressed in timely manner, order parts, materials to repair all equipment and other Lab building and maintenance duties as assigned.

Laboratory Equipment Maintenance Technician 2

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Equipment Maintenance Technician will conduct routine and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. This role will include, but not limited to autoclaves, centrifuges, water purifiers, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, fume hood, Bio-Safety cabinets and commercial dish washers. The individual in this role will ensure all work orders are addressed in timely manner, order parts, materials to repair all equipment and other Lab building and maintenance duties as assigned.

 

What will I be doing in this job?

-        Troubleshooting, repair testing and calibrating defective or malfunctioning laboratory equipment

-        Working with the Physical Plant Supervisor II to gain a good working knowledge of the Building Automation System

-        Scheduling and performing preventative maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment at the State Laboratory and maintain required records

-        Fabricating and modifying laboratory equipment to meet the needs of the laboratory

-        Ordering parts for repair and maintenance of equipment and maintaining spare parts inventory as authorized

-        Picking and delivering of equipment and documents and other necessary items for the laboratory

-        Maintaining the water softener, deionizer water system and R. 0. water system

 

What does this job require?

-        Understanding of electronic circuitry in order to troubleshoot, repair, test, calibrate and modify all types of electronic equipment

-        Testing electrical equipment, understanding capabilities and requirements for different types of test equipment and correct test methods and procedures

-        Refrigeration and air conditioning, refrigeration cycle, temperature and pressure relationships, know how to test and change out defective components

-        Ensuring that all plumbing is installed in accordance with the plumbing code

-        Operating carpenter shop equipment proficiently and safely

-        Building Automation System and how it relates to an HVAC system  

-        Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies  

-        Troubleshooting electronic circuitry, repair test, calibrate equipment

-        Electrical coding to ensure that all electrical work is done in compliance with code specifications

-        Operating various machine shop equipment proficiently and safely (portable drills, saws and grinders)

-        Must be able to pass a background check through Security Risk Assessment

What are the preferred qualifications for this job?

        At least two years of on-the-job work experience and/or knowledge of electronics, electronic test equipment, refrigeration and air-conditioning, electricity, plumbing; machining; and carpentry

        Preference given to applicants with Public Health experience

        Skills acquired through: electronic course and two years of work experience; building construction course and study of plumbing requirements and two years of work experience; at least two years of on-the-job training/work experience
