  ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is located at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Lewis which is located between Buckeye and Gila Bend; this is 55 miles from central Phoenix.

This position is responsible for the fiscal maintenance of the Inmate Store Proceeds (ISP) and general funds at ASPC – Lewis. 

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Posts all mail money, prepare deposits, and reviews inmate accounts for collection of inmate debts of amounts put on hold and suspended

-          Posts disbursements and generating checks

-          Processes documentation for released inmates

-          Releases inmate payroll Work Incentive Pay Plan (W.I.P.P.) reports

-          Reconciles general ledger entries

-          Maintains supporting documentation for all accounts

-          Reviews account to identify errors

-          Responds to inquiries in a timely manner

-          Drives on state business

-          Performs other duties as appropriate to the assignment

 

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Governmental accounting practices and procedures

-          Automated accounting systems

-          Financial record maintenance

-          Data processing

Skill in:

-          Application of accounting methodology

-          Written and verbal communication

-          Time management and organization

-          Operation of automated accounting systems and software

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

Ability to:

-          Work in a prison environment

-          Apply work management techniques

-          Analyze and interpret fiscal and statistical data

-          Reconcile, research and compile fiscal and statistical information

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

-          Experience using automated accounting system(s)

-          Two years accounting experience

-          Previous experience as an Accounting Technician

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
