The Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Adult Protective Services Investigator 3. This position is responsible for the investigation, assessment, evaluation and services for vulnerable or incapacitated adults, 18 years and older, who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or exploited.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of risk assessment for elder mistreatment, human behavior, abusive adults, medical illnesses and psychological abuse

-          Knowledge of physical behavioral indicators of abuse and/or neglect of mentally disabled and/or seriously mentally ill (SMI) adults and frail elderly

-          Knowledge of substance abuse and its effects

-          Knowledge of judicial system as it relates to the appointment of Guardian/Conservator

-          Knowledge of legal issues and social work principles

-          Skill in verbal and written communications

-          Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Skill in interviewing to extract pertinent information and listening via telephone in particular

-          Skill in needs assessment of vulnerable and frail elderly

-          Skill in organization and time management.

-          Skill in Microsoft Office Suite

-          Ability to learn and adhere to federal and state laws, regulations and policies as they relate to APS

-          Ability to learn and adhere to searching the APS computer system

-          Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurately apply applicable statues, policies and procedures

-          Ability to retrieve data, conduct research and write concise reports

-          Ability to evaluate risk, set priorities and delegate work assignments

Licenses and Certifications:

-          Arizona Level 1 Clearance Card

-          This position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).  Employees may be required to drive their personal motor vehicle; however, mileage will be reimbursed

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459


-          Two years of relevant experience is required—a combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for this position acquired through a combination of education, training, and work experience

-          The ideal/preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, rehabilitation, counseling, education sociology, and psychology or other closely related field focusing on the provision of services with the community (i.e., human behavior and the elder/frail adult, abusive adults, medical issues and psychological issues). 

-          The ideal/preferred candidate will be someone who is willing to travel to different locations, work independently, and is self-motivated
