The Department of Economic Security, Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Eligibility Interviewer Trainee. This position is responsible for providing quality customer service to the public while interviewing and gathering pertinent information to complete the benefit determination process. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-       General working Knowledge of internet and email use, task management and MS Office software, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

-       Skill in conducting interviews and gathering information while providing excellent customer service to clients seeking benefits offered by the Division.

-       Skill in navigating through multiple computer programs simultaneously.

-       Skill in typing with speed and accuracy while interviewing clients.

-       Ability to apply basic mathematical skills to determine public assistance eligibility.

-       Ability to learn basic federal, state and agency statutes, rules and regulations applicable to the public assistance programs.

-       Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients, including other state agencies and community resources.

-       Ability to work at least 40 hours per week and provide support to the team or department. 

-       Ability to provide proof of obtaining a High school diploma or GED.

-       Ability to attend training and learn how to complete the above job duties.

-       Ability to take actions that conflict with your own values.  Must be able to accept clients’ differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.  Some controversial issues encountered in the work environment include: clients with AIDS and other communicable diseases; applicants/recipients involved in Welfare fraud; clients who have substance abuse dependency; clients who are domestic violence victims; clients who are mentally ill; clients with felony convictions; homeless individuals and families; elderly and/or disabled clients placed in long-term care facilities; mandatory report of child and adult abuse; clients whose life style, culture and/or values may be significantly different than your own.

Licenses and Certifications:

-          If the position is required to drive on state business, the position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate tot the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

Qualifications:

-          At least two (2) years of experience performing clerical duties preferred; or one (1) year of experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment, or veterans’ benefits, or publicly or privately funded health, counseling, or social services desired; or completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units preferred but not required.

-          The ideal candidate will have a strong emphasis on continuous quality improvement, strong work ethic, and the ability to prioritize assigned work tasks with a timely follow through.

-          Excellent listening and strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent customer service skills and initiative; solution-based problem-solving ability are highly desirable.

-          Experience in maintaining cooperative relations and communications with customers, management, and staff while maintaining the ability to uphold a high standard of professionalism is highly preferred.

-          Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as well as basic knowledge of software and database programs; meeting the educational requirements is preferred.

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
