JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Teacher Certification Investigations Unit is seeking an Investigator. 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:  

  • Gather materials from school districts, police departments, the courts, and victims/witnesses, as appropriate, to determine whether a factual basis exists for the allegations and if seeking discipline is warranted
  • Review assigned case reports of unprofessional or immoral conduct by certificate holders
  • Accurately conduct time sensitive tasks such as notification letters, request for information, final action notifications of State Board of Education (SBE) actions and discipline, database and case log entry for all actions on all cases
  • Prepare case files with recommendation for action on the allegations based on factual evidence, statutory/administrative code authority and ADE/SBE guidelines
  • Present completed case file and recommendations to supervisor for approval
  • Respond to public and school inquiries regarding the status of certificate holders and investigations, including both verbal and written communications
  • Process applications for certification that contain criminal or disciplinary history for the certification unit
  • Testify in hearings as necessary at the request of the State Board of Education
  • Local travel required for this position.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Investigative techniques and practices
  • Case organization and presentation
  • Criminal court proceedings and administrative practices
  • Referencing and applying state laws and administrative rules
  • Understanding of law enforcement and court practices
  • Applicants must have experience with investigation and/or law enforcement

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • General office and computer skills
  • Time management
  • Organization
  • Basic skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Effectively manage high volume case load
  • Gather evidence through an investigation and prepare written investigative reports
  • Prepare clear and concise recommendations based on the available evidence
  • Ability to make sound decisions or determinations independently when necessary

 

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):

 

  • Preference will be given to those applicants with experience researching statutes, administrative licensing actions, high level case load, and high stress work environment.
