    JOB SUMMARY & DUTIES

    .

     

    We are seeking a Building Maintenance Technician II who will be under the direct supervisor of the Physical Plant Administrator to performs varied tasks including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, welding, masonry maintenance, painting, and electrical, etc.

     

    Duties include:

    • Assists in training and occasionally leading youth workers in(dress, behavior, work skills)
    • Ensures and demonstrates safety rules and procedures
    • Assists with minor remodeling and construction of buildings
    • Performs periodic standard inspections and preventative maintenance on tools, equipment and correctional buildings
    • Performs correction repair on all tools, equipment and utilities support services
    • May be utilized in supporting the Grounds and Custodial personnel as directed
    • Attends staff meetings as required
    • Orders and reorders supplies or tools as needed
    • Responsible for tool accountability
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of:

    • Tools, equipment and material used in the workplace
    • Methods and techniques used in lifting, moving, stacking, storing and protecting tools, equipment and materials
    • Methods and techniques of training and leadership
    • Federal and local safety laws, rules and policies governing the work activities and safety equipment
    • Local and national building codes
    • Minor landscaping techniques such as mowing and weeding
    • Custodial techniques used in cleaning, mopping, disposing of trash and garbage
    • General computer operations

    Skill in:

    ·         Selecting and properly using, maintaining and securing tools, equipment and materials

    ·         Inspecting and determining repairs and replacements

    ·         Applying custodial duties as required

    ·         Operating lawn mowers and trimmer equipment

    ·         Scheduling and prioritizing work

    ·         Developing interpersonal relationships

    ·         Verbal and written communication

    Ability to:

    • Make sound decisions that are mindful of existing resources
    • Manage priorities, control multiple tasks to meet goals and objectives
    • Communicate proactively with employees and supervisors
    • Ensure all agency policies and procedures are adhered to
    • Quickly learn new operating and safety instructions for equipment
    • Supervise Youth workers
    • Work in a correctional environment
    • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures

    SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS

    Requires possession of, and ability to retain, a current valid Arizona-issued drivers license.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license records checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

    Requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by:

    ·            No formal discipline within one year preceding this job posting close date, and

    ·            An overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

    Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, drug test, and physical exam.

    SELECTIVE PREFERENCE

    Certifications/training in carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling, electrical, equipment operation and maintenance. Must have 3 years of experience related to new construction, maintenance, and remodel and 3 years of experience in the operation of light to heavy duty construction equipment
