Research Analyst

The Office of Economic Opportunity is seeking a highly motivated, self-driven individual to fill a research analyst position. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills with an understanding of statistical and research techniques. The research analyst will be part of a larger research team composed of individuals with complementary backgrounds and experience. In partnership with federal agencies, this team is responsible for managing and publishing state and sub-state economic data, analyzing and communicating economic trends, and creating advanced statistical models all to inform data-driven economic and workforce development strategies. Duties for this position include preparing monthly and annual economic reports for publication, supporting economic forecasting efforts, and analyzing economic and workforce data. The research analyst will also prepare official reports on the economic impacts of proposed and current state agency regulations.

Along with analysis and preparation responsibilities, the research analyst will spend a portion of their time focused on data dissemination. Candidates must be comfortable communicating economic results to diverse audiences. This includes presenting technical information to non-technical audiences, publishing original research content, and creating interactive data visualization tools.


The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:

·       A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in economics, data analytics, political science, statistics, applied mathematics or related social science field is required

·       Understanding of statistical methods used  to plan, develop, and prepare economic analysis

·       Ability to effectively organize, analyze and evaluate economic data, particularly economic, fiscal, or operational factors affecting state agencies, political subdivisions and businesses

·       Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

·       Experience creating data visualization charts and tools using Tableau or a similar product

·       Experience with statistical programming in SAS or other languages is preferred

·       Familiarity with basic database management applications, e.g. My SQL

·       Experience with business products, e.g. MS Office suite including Outlook,  Word,  Excel, and PowerPoint

·       Excellent written and public speaking skills

·       Ability to make well-reasoned recommendations

·       Multi-task and appropriately prioritize deliverables

·       Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with peers, local and regional officials, the general public, and the media
