JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for inspecting, installing, removing, replacing and repairing all manual and electronically operated locking/security devices in a prison environment.

JOB DUTIES: 

-        Inspects and performs preventative maintenance on locks, locking devices or systems and keys

-        Maintains a variety of records on work performed, including inventories, work orders and documentation pertaining to materials and supplies

-        Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and that all are accounted for

-        Orders parts and equipment

-        Drives on State business

-        Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

 

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-        Electrical and mechanical locking devices

-        Wiring diagrams

-        National/local building codes and common safety-security-custody, practices and procedures

-        Sketches and structural components of applicable systems or locks

 

Skill in:

-        Reading and interpreting blueprints or sketches

-        Using common and specialized tools, equipment and materials

-        Installing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic locks

-        Ordering and estimating costs

-        Written and verbal communication

 

Ability to:

-        Work in a prison environment

-        Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

-        Prefer one or more year of experience in repairing electric/electronic locks

-        Locksmith Certification

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test* and a medical/physical examination.
