JOB SUMMARY:

These positions are primarily for conducting facility inspections at public and privately managed prisons housing inmates remanded to the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC).

JOB DUTIES: 

-        Implements comprehensive inspection protocols at various locations, while evaluating the quality, relevance, applicability, and feasibility of indicators/data obtained during the evaluation

-        Conducts research to revise data collection instruments as required, ensuring the most current inspection tools are in-line with agency written with instructions or private contracts

-        Performs audits, inspections, security evaluations, and special assessments (management, vulnerability, after-action) as requested

-        Conducts follow-up evaluations to determine final positive compliance and/or close findings previously left open during prior inspections

-        Evaluates data and formulates comprehensive reports detailing the inspection findings, areas of non-compliance, required actions plans, and environmental observations for each location

-        Conducts meetings, briefings, and/or presentations of findings to applicable members of the executive team

-        Drives on State business

-        Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

 

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-        Principles and practices of management and supervision

-        Various computer software applications including Microsoft Office

-        Research methodologies and report generation

-        Creation and manipulation of audit instruments

-        Security and programs assessment strategies

 

Skill in:

-        Verbal and written communications

-        Attention to detail

-        Typing and composing clear and concise reports

-        Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-        Organization and time management

-        Leadership and decision making

 

Ability to:

-        Work in prison environment

-        Travel frequently including overnight stays

-        Conduct thorough inspections/audits/assessments and research

-        Work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines

-        Professionally interact with peers, supervisors, and managers at all levels of the agency

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

-        Minimum of five years of progressively responsible correctional experience with a focus in security practices and/or inmate programs

-        Strong background with utilizing written instructions

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and a drug test*.

RETIREMENT: 

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). 

Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
