The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) is the steward of Arizona's water future and ensures long-term, reliable water supplies to support the continued economic prosperity of the State. ADWR is continually protecting Arizona's water supplies for its next century.  ADWR is seeking a Legislative Liaison for the Director's Office. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position specializes in the legislative affairs and legislative policy of ADWR. The Legislative Liaison is a member of the Director’s Office and is responsible for working with ADWR senior management to coordinate and develop the department's legislative agenda.

Critical functions of this position include reviewing, developing, analyzing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on legislative, budgetary or program initiatives that affect the department, its programs, and its policies. The Legislative Liaison advises and consults with the Director, Deputy Director, and Chief Legal Counsel on matters of legislative and policy concern including:

  • legislative monitoring and tracking
  • coordinating internally to ensure that ADWR implements enacted legislation timely
  • policy research and analysis
  • communicating, corresponding and meeting with government officials and their representatives
  • building alliances and cultivating relationships

This position coordinates ADWR initiatives with the Governor's Office, the Legislature and its members and representatives, and other state agencies to ensure that the legislative initiatives of the department are consistent with the overall policies of the Governor's administration. The person in this position may be called on to meet with or otherwise communicate with government officials and their representatives concerning the department's legislative agenda and matters relating to ADWR and to represent the department, on behalf of the Director, before the Legislature, special interest groups and the general public.

  • Must be familiar with the legislative process in Arizona, Arizona's laws, and water resources matters.

  • Must possess initiative, have the ability to identify and define problems, and the ability to examine relevant information and choose the correct course of action based on the defining environment and procedures.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
