Arizona Department of Child Safety

This position is responsible for safely escorting and/or transporting clients to Department of Child Safety’s (DCS) visitation meetings and documenting observations.


Alternative work hours may be required, including overtime, weekends and holidays at the discretion of the supervisor.

Candidates who are successfully employed as Case Aide for five (5) years will be eligible to apply for a promotional opportunity to a DCS Specialist Position, grade 16 ($34,978/annually).


-          Supervises visitation meetings among clients (natural parents and children) to ensure compliance

-          Enters case notes into Children’s Information Library and Data Source (CHILDS) system

-          Drives on state business

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment


Knowledge of:

-          Casework principles and practices  

-          Human and social services; welfare services

-          State, Federal and local laws concerning placement, custody and treatment of children

-          Resources available in the community that maybe utilized on clients behalf

-          Developmental and behavioral problems of children, their causes, symptoms and treatment

-          Effects and problems of foster care; social intellectual and behavioral problems of developmentally disabled children

-          Cultural environment and community influences on behavioral and development of individuals

Skill in:

-          Verbal and written communication

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          General clerical functions such as, data entry and filling

-          Eliciting and gathering information

-          Deescalating situations

-          Modeling professional behavior with clients

-          Time management and multi-tasking

-          Addressing hostile situations (e.g. terminating visits if harmful to clients)


Ability to:

-          Operate a computer and utilize various software

-          Learn and adhere to DCS policies and regulations applicable to assigned programs

-          Comprehend and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions

-          Organize data in a logical and coherent manner

-          Prepare written reports accurately in a prescribed format

-          Actively listen and provide supportive attention to clients


Requires the possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).


Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.


Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card.

Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the CPS Central Registry.


-          Some college experience with credit hours in child development, rehabilitation, social services, counseling, psychology, sociology or related field from accredited college or university OR

-          Two (2) years’ experience working in a child welfare environment, indirectly or directly with clients

-          Experience working with children in a controlled environment (i.e., nanny, daycare, teacher’s aide)


Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
