Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Transportation Construction Tech 3 Perform technical and specialized laboratory tests for acceptance and research testing. JOB SUMMARY

 

The primary responsibilities of the Transportation Construction Tech 3 Perform technical and specialized laboratory tests for acceptance and research testing. Performs a full range of laboratory testing on soil composition, surfacing materials aggregate, asphalt mix, oil and water content, embankment compaction, plant mix density and factors as require in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO and Arizona Test methods.

 

Additional duties include:

 

·         Perform test in laboratory soils, Composition, surfacing materials aggregate, asphalt mix, oil and water content, embankment compaction, plant mix density and factors as require

·         Calculations and reporting of test performed in laboratory

·         Computer input of test results in FAST database

·         Maintain and calibrate testing equipment used in the laboratory

·         Assist with field sampling and other duties as assigned as related to the position

 

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

·         Methods, procedures and techniques used in sampling and testing of highway construction materials

·         Materials and equipment used for highway construction purposes

·         Experience in operations and maintenance of a variety of materials testing and inspection measuring devices

 

Skills in:

 

·         Testing hot mix asphalt, liquid asphalt, and soils and aggregates

·         Reading and mathematics

·         Verbal and written communication

Ability to:

·         Perform complex mathematical calculations used in materials testing and highway construction

·         Lift 50+ Lbs

 

  PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for this position will have;

·         Completion of the Construction Lab Technician certification matrix through the technical 3 level

·         Arizona Technical Testing Institute Certifications: Soils & Aggregates, and Asphalt

·         American Concrete Institute Certifications: Concrete Strength, Field Technician Grade

·         Physically fit to stand on feet all day, be able to deal heat

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.  Candidates for this position must complete page 5 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).  The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).  The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.  Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
