Customer Service Unit Supervisor




Motor Vehicle Division

300 S. Edgewater Dr, Tuba City, AZ 86045



This position is open only to current ADOT employees


This position will provide direct supervision to Customer Service Representatives positions assigned to various statewide Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Customer Service Centers. These positions provide various services including, driver license service, title & registration service, voter registration, ignition interlock, organ donor, Selective Service registration, authorized presence and fraudulent document identification.  CLICK HERE to learn more!


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Resolution of day to day operational and customer service issues;

·         Application of applicable statutes, policies and procedures;

·         Initiating personnel disciplinary actions;

·         Adjusting staff and other resources to meet the needs of the office;

·         Assignment of staff to training, rotational assignments, etc.;

·         Requiring clearance from higher level management: progressive disciplinary actions, responses to "delegation letters" from MVD Director's Office, contacts with the media, State contract disputes.


This position may be required to drive a state-owned or personal vehicle in the course and scope of state business.




Knowledge in

·         Division and Program goals and objectives;

·         Personnel management, public relations, customer relations, problem solving, interpersonal relations and motivational principals, processes and practices;

·         Applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

·         Knowledge to approve or reject Identity documents from foreign applicants for a driver license and ID credentials.


Skills in

·         Oral and written communication;

·         Customer and public relations and conflict and issue resolution;

·         Personnel management and development skills;

·         The use of personal computers and the software used by the MVD Customer Service Program.


Ability to

·         Respond to and resolve daily operational and customer service issues;

·         Apply accurate statutes, policies and procedures;

·         Coordinate work schedules, adjusting resources as necessary, and coordinate training activities;

·         Administer disciplinary action as approved/authorized;

·         Produce correspondence; respond to media contacts as authorized; and respond to contract concerns/disputes in coordination with Procurement management.




Two years experience in Arizona State Service as a Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative; or four years of experience in a high visibility public contact setting in a regulatory or public service environment one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. 


A Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration or related field will substitute for two years of the required work experience.


Any combination of training and experience that meet the Knowledge Skills and Abilities (SKAs) may be substituted.





This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.  Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 and PART 2 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).  The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).  The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.   Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
