The Arizona Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is the largest public law office in the State of Arizona with a budget of more than $110 million and over a 1,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions. The Budget & Finance Section (BFS) is responsible for ensuring that all financial activities for a complex State agency with 24 different funds, more than 800 cost centers--are in compliance with all applicable Federal and State Laws and policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Ethical Rules of the American Bar Association and Arizona State Bar. The BFS is also responsible for the financial management and reporting activities for over 60 interagency service agreements with more than 50 agencies, plus 14 State grants, and over 20 Federal grants, and ensuring that these contracts are in compliance with applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulations.

The Operations Division/Budget and Finance Section is seeking an Accounting Specialist 2. The position will be responsible for travel related activities.  Reviews, prepares and inputs travel and employee reimbursement claims into the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Will be responsible for running various travel and employee reimbursement related reports to identify inconsistencies and errors though the use of Info Advantage, Data Warehouse, HRIS and Crystal Reports.  Will be responsible for maintaining the travel and employee reimbursement logs.  Will need to ensure that all claims are in compliance with the State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM).  Position may also be assigned components of payroll, accounts payable and general ledger.


Knowledge needed:

·       Knowledge of principles, concepts, practices methods and techniques of governmental accounting, internal controls structures, and fiscal management. 

·       Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

·       Knowledge of the State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM) and applicable agency manuals.

·       Knowledge of data processing techniques as it applies to accounting practices.

·       Knowledge of the processes of State Government

Abilities needed:

·       Ideal Candidates will have a minimum of one year governmental accounting experience equivalent to a Fiscal Services Specialist II; OR completion of at least 12 semester hours of accounting from an accredited college or university and two years professional level accounting experience in business or industry.
