JOB SUMMARY

 

The Transportation Construction Tech 3 performs skilled electrical and electronic inspection of traffic signals, roadway illumination, and Freeway Management System (FMS) components on highway construction projects.

 

·         Read and interpret electrical plans, special provisions, supplemental agreements, standard specifications and drawings, and electrical codes applicable to project work

·         Inspect and sample quality and quantity of electrical materials, components and workmanship on highway construction projects

·         Enforce safety precautions

·         Record manpower, equipment, materials, work performed and pay items completed in Pen dally diaries.

·         Confer with ADOT employees, consultants, and contractors to answer questions and resolve issues at the lowest level possible.

·         Performs related work as required

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

·         Common and specialized tools, equipment and materials related to the trade.

·         Plans, special provisions, standard specifications and drawings for electrical and electronic components and circuits

·         National and local electrical codes

·         Methods and procedures for inspecting the installation of traffic signal, illumination, and FMS components

·         Common safety practices

·         Electrical and electronic theory

Skills in:

 

·         Reading and understanding plans, special provisions, standard specifications and drawings of electrical and electronic components and circuits

·         Understanding and applying national and local electrical codes and common safety practices.

·         Verbal and written communications in fluent English

·         Interpersonal relationships

Ability to:

 

·         Safely drive a full-size pickup truck on- and off-road

·         Work outdoors for extended time, exposed to extreme heat, cold, dust and noise, near high-speed traffic

·         Safely complete all work

·         Complete assignments to acceptable standards of accuracy and timeliness

 

  PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for this position will have;

One year of experience as a Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician I. Any combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

 

REQUIREMENTS

A medical/physical evaluation is required prior to appointment.

 PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.  Candidates for this position must complete page 5 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).  The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).  The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.  Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
