JOB SUMMARY

The Arizona Collection Librarian plays a critical role with the Research Library team to establish a proactive service culture to ensure patrons have expedited, accurate, and relevant access to both physical and online collections that tell the story of Arizona's history and government. The Arizona Collection Librarian will manage the Arizona Collection and the appropriate corresponding online resources. The Arizona Collection Librarian is responsible for the maintenance, development, and accessibility of the collections as well as providing reference services. 

Additional responsibilities include working with Arizona materials across Library Services. 

This position is a part of the State of Arizona Research Library team in Library Services at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, reporting to the Research Library Assistant Administrator. This position must work collaboratively with Research Library team members, as well as other Library Services and Archives staff. 

This is a full-time position consisting of a 40 hour work week. This position requires a background check and a fingerprint card on file. The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. This position must have a valid Arizona driver’s license, be able to drive a state vehicle, and be willing and able to travel in and out of state. 

Duties/Responsibilities Include:

·         Build collection by researching and selecting new materials for the collection, as well as assessing materials proposed for donation. Work with vendors on ordering and payment. Work with organizations and institutions to evaluate and accept collections consistent with the collection policy, and manage the transfer process. Process new materials, including assuring that materials are cataloged, and that preservation needs are met.

·         Support digitization of the Arizona Collection by selecting, organizing, and assigning metadata to materials for inclusion in the Arizona Memory Project or other appropriate online platforms.

·         Provide in-depth research assistance for patrons in person, and via the phone and email.

·         Directly supervise one library associate and/or volunteers as assigned.

·         Outreach and collaborate with other staff and institutions through participation in professional groups and conferences such as ALA and AzLA. Assist with outreach efforts to the greater public, including creation of social media content.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

      Knowledge of Arizona and Southwest history, literature, government, and/or geography

      Knowledge of collection development and management

      Knowledge of online library content tools and practices

      Skilled with the use of spreadsheets, databases, content management systems, web design tools, and online platforms

      Skilled with the management of library system workflows

      Skilled with working with researchers to determine their needs, and finding appropriate materials

      Ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse groups of people, including both technical and non-technical staff

      Effective verbal and written communication

      Ability to lift, carry, and pull up to 30 pounds

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Valid Arizona Driver's License 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Master's degree in library science or related field.

      Library experience that includes customer service, research assistance, collection development, and cataloging.
