JOB SUMMARY & DUTIES

Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) vision is to be a nationally recognized leader that advances public safety through the rehabilitation of seriously delinquent youth.

 

We are seeking a Correctional Food Services Supervisor I to be responsible for the supervision and safety of a large volume correctional food production program preparing and serving in excess of 1000 meals per day, utilizing youth residents as the primary work force and ensuring agency policy and procedures, laws, rules, regulations and standards governing Food Service operations are followed. 

 

Duties include:

·        Supervise and train youth employees in working in a volume food production program.

·        Counsel youth employees on performance, vocational competencies, and appropriate behavior.

·        Evaluate and document youth behavior, communicate with unit supervisors and staff regarding youth performance.

·        Perform crisis intervention with youth employees as necessary.

·        Write reports, maintain logs and required documentation including the National School Lunch/ Breakfast Program (NSLP/SBP).

·        Maintain safe environment in the Food Services Division using appropriate Security protocols.

·        Maintain correct food safety and operating procedures in the kitchen facility as specified by required health codes.

·        Plan and prepare meals and services of special diets.

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

·        Volume food production

·        Cleaning and sanitation techniques

  • As demonstrated by working in a large volume food preparation kitchen

Skill in:  

·        Basic math

·        Written and verbal communication

·        Supervision and leadership

·        Computer software to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

·        Establishing and maintaining work relationships

 Ability to: 

·        De-escalate youth behavior

·        Work closely with adjudicated youth in a secure institutional setting

·        Learn the National School Lunch/Breakfast Program requirements

·        Learn Federal, State and agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures

·        Learn and follow agency policies and procedures

·        Learn youth management and treatment techniques (crisis intervention)

·        Learn security practices to include therapeutic crisis intervention, restraints, etc.

·        Learn radio communications

·        Learn educational vocational program requirements

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS

Possession of, or ability to obtain, ServSafe Basic certification within 2 months of appointment.

 

Requires possession of, and ability to retain, a current valid Arizona-issued drivers license.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license records checks, maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

 

Requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by:

  • No formal discipline within one year preceding this job posting close date, and
  • An overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, drug test and a medical/ physical examination.

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE

The preferred candidate will have:

·        Experience working with adult or juvenile populations

·        Experience in a large scale (over 1,000 meals daily) kitchen

·        Bilingual skills in Spanish/English
