AGENCY INFORMATION

The Arizona Game & Fish Department is responsible for managing Arizona’s fish and wildlife resource as an enduring public trust. In addition, the Department is charged with promoting safe and responsible use of watercraft and off-highway vehicles. Funding is provided from the sale of licenses and permits; watercraft registration fees; federal excise taxes on firearms, fishing equipment, boats, and other sporting goods; State lottery revenues; donations on State income tax forms; and various contracts and grants. JOB INFORMATION

The Accounts Payable Supervisor position will be responsible for supervising a team of four Accountants. This position will review and approve financial documents, maintain a fiscal services system for state and federal grants, license revenues and donation accounts in which examining a variety of financial documents for completeness, accuracy and conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Major duties include:

·         Makes entries and revisions to the general ledger

·         Monitor funds form state and federal grants for available funding for payments to vendors to assure that expenditures do not exceed funds available

·         Reconciling reports from AFIS and APP including check request, inter-agency and intra-agency payment requests needed due to program area requests and monies owed

·         Identify apparent inconsistencies for a given grant

·         Preparing financial reports which may involve extensive research for available funding and budgets or accounting analysis

·         Performs other duties assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The candidate must have knowledge of/in:  accounting principles and practices, analysis and reporting of financial data, GAAP, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting, fiscal management, and automated financial systems.

Candidate must be skilled in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data, work organization and accomplishment, perform accounting functions and broad administrative support functions, monitoring accounting requirements and deadlines, respond to a variety of complex accounting inquiries concerning accounting functions and provide proper advice regarding proper procedures. 

The ideal candidate must be able to: develop procedures, analyze problems and design effective plans for program improvement, effectively manage time, detail oriented, maintain confidentiality and provide good customer service.  Supervisory experience strongly preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or closely related field required and two years’ experience as an Accountant 1, 2 or equivalent.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.
