The mission of the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) is to protect, conserve, and enhance Arizona’s water supplies by confronting water management challenges in a bold, thoughtful, and innovative manner. Do you want to join our team? ADWR is seeking a Hydrologist for the Recharge, Assured and Adequate Water Supply Section.

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for building and calibrating numeral groundwater flow models to achieve an acceptable match between model outputs and historic conditions. Collects and analyzes geological, hydrological, and demographic data used to construct groundwater flow models and predictive scenarios. Automate data processing and develop custom applications.  Documents analyses of data, interpretations, and calculations used to construct groundwater flow models or predictive scenarios. Writes scientific report for completed projects.  Uses groundwater flow models to simulate future water uses and impacts to the modeled aquifer(s).

 

Provides modeling expertise within and outside of ADWR. Performs hydrologic analysis for special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Construction and use numeral groundwater flow models
  • The occurrence, behavior and nature of groundwater resources combined with a skill in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of hydrologic and geologic data
  • Standard and innovative techniques of solving a variety of groundwater problems including numerical and statistical analysis, database use and design, GIS and a general overall skill using computers

Skills in:

  • Documenting groundwater flow model studies, results an analysis in writing
  • Oral communication, presenting analysis and results to agency staff, other agencies and public forums
  • MATLAB, Python, ARCGIS Pro, Groundwater Vistas

 

Ability to:

  • Coordinate team’s activities with various internal divisions, government agencies. municipalities, educational organizations and public groups
  • Conduct work product reviews and serve as leader on various groundwater modeling projects and other types of hydrology related activities
  • Communicate technical information, both orally and in writing

SPECIAL FACTORS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in hydrology, civil engineering, geology, watershed management or a related field, plus three years relevant work experience; a Master's degree in one of the above field substitutes for one year of the required experience; a Ph.D. in one of the above fields substitutes for two years of required experience.

This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)

 

SALARY 

 

The grade 21 salary range is $42,799 (minimum) - $55,773 (mid-point) - $71,563 (maximum). Typically, salaries are below the midpoint but highly qualified applicants will be considered for higher salaries.
