The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA) is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard. The Army National Guard is "Always Ready - Always There" providing military forces to accomplish community, State and Federal missions.  The Air National Guard maintains excellence with flexible, sustainable, expeditionary and joint interoperable capabilities in all facets of current Federal and State missions.  The Division of Emergency Management’s mission is to coordinate emergency services and efforts to governmental agencies to reduce the impact of disaster on person and property.  The Division of Administrative Services maintains the business operations of human resources, finance, purchasing/contracting, and legislative activities.  Many positions posted do not require military membership.

 

ELECTRICIAN

PAY RATE:  $13.9462 - $ 19.4826 per hour (DOE)

State Grade 17

This position is eligible for over-time compensation.

WORK LOCATION: Camp Navajo, Bellemont, AZ

Position Description:

The Electrician is responsible for maintaining buildings and utility service systems in good repair and operation. This position will be held accountable for the installation of electrical hardware to ensure electrical power is available to facilities and performance of preventive maintenance on all electrical equipment.

 

Responsibilities Include:

 

-        Install all associated electrical hardware to ensure electrical power is available to facilities.

-        Install motor control centers and high/low voltage transformers as needed.

-        Repair or upgrade electrical service to comply with needed requirements using the latest building codes.

-        Perform preventative maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting or replacing motors, batteries, pumps, motor starters, motor control center, and contractors.

-        Read, understand and interpret blueprints or other specifications to ensure electrical equipment is placed correctly.

-        Use a variety of meters to conduct tests for grounds, shorts, opens, and various electrical circuits and components.

-        Make emergency electrical service calls as required.

-        Ensure parts and materials are available for completion of jobs.

-         Document all man-hours and materials expended for each project and submit records to supervisor.

-        Supervise DOC minimum security inmates

 

Special Job Requirements:

 

Requires possession of, and ability to, retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).  In State travel required.  Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable National Agency Check with investigation for purpose of obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC) within one year of hire.  Incumbent must possess a minimum of 2 years or more performing commercial electrical work while under the supervision of a journeyman electrician and two years certified academic training as an electrician; as well as. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Desired Qualifications:  

 

Knowledge of:

 

-        Testing electrical systems using tools that include voltmeters, oscilloscopes and ohmmeters to determine where issues may be occurring.

-        Documenting actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation.

-        Determining the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps.  

-        Compliance with National and local building codes in the planning and performance of building repair and maintenance. 

-        Rules and regulations to supervise inmates.

-        National and local building codes, structural components of building and related utilities services systems.

 

Skilled in:

 

-        Using tools, equipment and materials common to building maintenance work.

-        The care and maintenance electrical systems regarding buildings and/or grounds.

-        Preventative maintenance of powered and non-powered equipment and tools. 

-        Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches and schematics as they relate to buildings and related utilities services systems.

-        Verbal and written communications.

-        Using computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power-point).

-       Self-motivation

 

Ability to:

 

-        Comply and enforce National and local building codes. 

-        Enforce regulations, safety precautions and use of appropriate PPE.

-        Prepare estimates, perform costing, and order materials for assigned work projects prior to the start of shift.  

-        Demonstrate leadership and resolve an assortment of electrical issues at the field level. 

-        Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coworkers, vendors, and customers.

-        Produce working results.

-        Attend opportunities for training and certification.

-        Keep meticulous records of time and materials.

 

Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education, and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities as described. Preferred candidate will be a Journeyman Electrician or will be a  Licensed Electrician in AZ. Incumbent will have hands on experience in facilities trades other than electrical (Plumbing, Mechanical, etc) and additional professional trade certifications.
