Job Description

OFFICE OF THE ARIZONA ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Attorney General's Office Child and Family Protection Division, Child Support Services Section is seeking paralegal interns for our Chandler office.  This section represents the Department of Child Support Services (“DCSS”) in litigation of IV-D child support cases.  The Child Support Services Section engages in a litigation-focused practice, handling thousands of legal actions each year.  Common cases may involve establishing paternity and establishing, modifying and enforcing child support orders, as well as high-profile and complex issues.

We encourage all current paralegal studies students and recent graduates to apply.  Internship positions at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) are designed to give participants exposure to the AGO work environment, including opportunities to observe and assist in legal proceedings and assume some of the same responsibilities as our full-time personnel.
Due to State budget constraints, only unpaid internships are available.
Full-time and part-time internships are available.

REQUIREMENTS

·        Currently enrolled and/or recently graduated from a Paralegal Studies Program.

·        A Minimum cumulative G.P.A. 2.75

RESPONSIBILITIES

Paralegal Intern responsibilities include assessing and preparing case files for court hearings, assisting in trial preparation and document management, obtaining records and other evidence for contested hearings and trials, drafting motions and correspondence, and following through with post-hearing work. Additionally, the paralegal intern performs legal and case-related research, drafts motions and legal memoranda, documents case-related activity into the automated case management system and performs additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All applicants under serious consideration for hire with the Attorney General's Office are required to be fingerprinted by the Office and complete a criminal background check through State and Federal agencies. A job offer cannot be tendered until the candidate has successfully passed the initial background check. Your record does not automatically constitute a bar to employment. Factors such as, but not limited to, age at time of offense and age of offense, as well as the relationship between the offense and the job for which you apply will be taken into account.

During all phases of the selection process, people with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation, such as a sign language interpreter, by contacting the AG’s Human Resources office at (602) 542-8056 or via e-mail at [email protected].  The Arizona Office of the Attorney General does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation or age in its programs, activities or in its hiring and employment practices. The following division has been designated to handle inquiries regarding the non-discrimination policies: Operations Division, 2005 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004, Phone: (602) 542-8056, Fax: (602) 542-8000.
