This position is responsible for guiding the Department in evaluating and permitting wastewater treatment plants across the state.  As Arizona’s primary expert in this field, you will be conducting technical evaluation of the design and operation of these facilities to ensure the efficacy of treatment options as well as effluent disposal options.  Additionally, you will be assisting treatment plant operators in trouble shooting issues with discharge limit exceedances as well as aquifer quality limit exceedances.  This position will also support goal of regaining its position as the number one state in the nation for water recycling /water reuse.  ADEQ took our first steps by removing the prohibition against direct potable reuse for human consumption and will need to do more in order to face the growing challenges regarding water quality and quantity the state faces.  As Arizona’s primary spokesperson for recycled water, you will be advising senior management on policy and direction, working with stakeholders to develop rule and law, and developing and executing outreach campaigns and education.  Coming in as a senior-level staff expert also requires mentoring and coaching junior staff so that Arizona not only achieves our goals, but maintains them.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

 

Ideal candidate will possess:

·         Nationally recognized expertise in the fields of public health, drinking water treatment, wastewater engineering, water policy, hydrology or hydrogeology.

·         Exemplary presentation and communication skills, with the ability to network and build a coalition of early adopters for recycled water within the State.

·         Provide outreach to wastewater treatments plants to ensure effective operation of permitted facilities.

·         Experience in implementing or developing a recycled water program or project.  This includes Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) or de-facto/indirect potable recharge (IPR) with the use of Advanced Water Treatment facilities.

·         The desire to help state government transcend to its fullest potential.

·         A minimum of eight years of related professional experience.  A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of experience; a Doctorate in a related field may substitute for four years of experience.

·         Professional registration in the appropriate career field such as Professional Engineer (P.E.), Registered Geologist (R.G.), Registered Sanitarian (R.S.) or equivalent.
