Education Program Specialist

 Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Section

Phoenix Location

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000


  • Serve as consultant to assigned Public Education Agencies (PEAs) offering technical assistance and professional development in special education related areas and data requirements.
  • Conduct on-site visits to assigned PEAs to review files for compliance indicators and review PEA data to aid in improving outcomes for students with disabilities.
  • Provide technical assistance on indicator requirements.
  • Monitor special education programs, either acting as lead monitor or participating on monitoring teams.
  • Analyze results and compliance data from PEAs for decision-making related to monitoring and technical assistance.
  • Participate in various department/division task teams, special projects, and professional development, as necessary to carry out work-related requirements.
  • Answer questions from the public pertaining to the state and federal requirements that apply to special education.
  • Attend conferences, read newsletters, journals, books, regulations, attorney general opinions, and laws related to special education in order to keep abreast of professional information and issues.
  • In-state and out-of-state travel is required for this position.

  • Preference will be given to those applicants with a Master’s degree in special education or a related field and experience serving as a teacher, related service provider, or administrator in a public school.
