ARIZONA PIONEERS’ HOME The Arizona Pioneers' Home is a continuing care retirement home operated and funded by the State of Arizona. The Home provides care and services to residents living independently, as well as to those requiring personal, assisted living, intermediate and skilled care. |

JOB SUMMARY: The Activities Director/Recreational Therapist III will provide and conduct comprehensive recreation therapy services and leisure activities to help with their patient’ physical and emotional well-being. The incumbent will transport residents, complete written assessment evaluations, design and implement individual care plans, document residents' participation in medical charts and computer records.

JOB DUTIES: · Plans, organizes, and implements recreational therapy and leisure activities to maintain functional level and develop skills.
· Schedule all activities and events in house, out of doors and in community. · Conduct all programs, events and funeral services. · Schedule entertainment. Purchase activity supplies. · Participate in patient care meetings; complete assessment evaluations; assist residents daily with requests, · Supervisory Tasks: Payroll calculations and leave time, discipline, department head and staff meetings, monitor assignments, performance evaluations (MAP). · Interview candidates for admission, complete evaluation, assist orientation through welcome committee. Maintain written/computer reports. · Maintain: Commercial Driver's License; vehicles; activity supplies, equipment, materials, including sound equipment. · Coordinate room use reservations and notifications. Supervise activity locations ie. Library (Book Nook), Hobbies N More room usage, storage rooms, closets, cupboards, etc. · Volunteer Coordinator: Supervise 50 outside volunteers and 20 resident volunteers; recruitment, interview, application packets, orientation, monitor TB skin tests and fingerprint cards, schedule tasks, assign 1: 1 visits, design projects for outside volunteers. · Liaison between APH and the Foundation: attend meetings, participate in fund raisers, request funds for activities, coordinate events, and follow up assignments. |
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Knowledge of: · The principles, practices and techniques of recreational therapy
· Therapeutic effects of exercise · Methods used to accomplish therapeutic goals through recreational programs · The scope of recreational therapy and its relationship to other health care professions · Modification techniques used to adapt activities to individuals needs · Community resources for recreational activities · Policies and procedures established for the work unit Skill in: · Applying recreational therapy techniques
· Explaining and demonstrating therapeutic recreation/activities to staff, clients, primary care givers and interested persons · Communication, computers, and office equipment. Ability to: · Motivate the interest of clients to maximize activities as deemed appropriate by individuals treatment plans
· Communicate verbally and in writing · Establish and maintain work relationships · Analyze situations accurately and taking effective actions · Manage your workload · Apply listening and follow through skills with resident requests, needs and wants. |
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: · Valid AZ Driver’s License
· Must be able to obtain an AZ Commercial Driver’s License Certification. · Food Handler’s card and AZ Van Driver Certification. · Must be able to obtain a Class 1 fingerprint card. · Maintain a current First Aid and CPR certification. · A minimum of 3 years of experience planning and leading therapeutic activities with geriatric population. · May require certification as a Recreational Therapist by a National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S): · Preferred certification as a Recreational Therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation or 3 years’ experience planning and leading therapeutic activities for geriatric population. · Must have patience, tact and a maturity to deal with various functional levels (physical and mental) · Desire to improve skills and knowledge pertaining to therapeutic recreation.
