Do you want to join our team? ADWR is seeking a Water Resources Specialist I for the Groundwater Permitting and Wells Section.  

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

This entry level position will be responsible for assisting in the management of well, permits and water rights. Responsible for assisting in research of the department's public records for the general public, other state and federal agencies; for accepting and processing well permit applications and for setting up physical files.

 

Responsible for ensuring that groundwater right applications and permits adhere to department policies, rules and procedures and State and Federal statutes.  Responsible for researching, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and integrating water resources management data.  data are gathered through the coordination and completion of filed investigations; and from a variety of sources and other program areas including field measurements, calculations, observations and evaluation of historical records, maps, deeds, aerial photographs, remotely sensed data output, water management databases, Department policies, rules and procedures, State and Federal statues, and from Federal, State and private entities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

 

Knowledge of:

  • The occurrence, behavior, and significance of water in nature.
  • Environmental, social, and economic aspects of water supply and utilization.
  • Information sources and research methods and techniques utilized in water resource management, including flood control and water rights administration.
  • The system of land/property description and identification used in the State of Arizona.

Skill in:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the Department, other governmental entities, private and public sectors.
  • Analyzing and interpreting water resource management data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Using computers and computer models to organize, analyze and interpret water resource management data

Ability to:

  • Research, compile, analyze, interpret and integrate water resource management data through the coordination and completion of field investigations, from a variety of sources and from other program areas.
  • Must be proficient in the use of legal descriptions and must be able to use aerial and photography, assessor's records.
  • Use computers to retrieve, organize, and present water resource management data.
  • Ability to interpret and explain Department policies, rules and procedures and State and Federal statutes

 

SALARY 

 

The grade 17 salary range is $29,008 (minimum) - $40,524 (mid-point) - $52,040 (maximum). Typically, salaries are below the mid-point, but highly qualified applicants will be considered for higher salaries.

SPECIAL FACTORS

 

This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).  

 

RETIREMENT:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
