Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) – Lewis

LOCATION ALERT:  This position is located at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Lewis which is located between Buckeye and Gila Bend; this is 55 miles from central Phoenix.

This position is responsible for services to employees relating to the promotion of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards.


-          Monitors industrial injuries/illnesses in order to facilitate a safe, healthy work environment and contribute to recovery

-          Abides by regulations mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Blood-borne Pathogen Standards

-          Maintains OSHA Log in compliance with guidelines

-          Provides Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing and Hepatitis B immunizations, monitors and follows-up with inoculations and tests to all department staff

-          Conducts in-depth investigations of occupational exposure incidents, communicable disease control and prevention, and case management

-          Maintains confidentiality of medical records and information in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) laws

-          Ensures compliance with the Return to Work program by providing case management for employees in need of Modified Duty or Temporary Work Assignment(s) (TWA)

-          Ensures compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), verifies that appropriate medical documentation meets requirements, and provides case management

-          Recognizes and identifies workplace hazards by analyzing, tracking, and reporting data

-          Drive on State business

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment



Must possess an active Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license or a Compact State license with multi-state privileges.  Candidates must provide license number on resume and furnish a copy of the license at time of interview; AND have a current Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification.

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).


Knowledge of:

-          Occupational Health Nursing standards of practice

-          General public health programs and sciences

-          Federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing occupational health nursing preventative medicine

-          Transmission and methods of control of communicable diseases

-          Case management for occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries

-          Personal computer operation and software programs such as Microsoft Suite and  Google Suite


Skill in:

-          Written and verbal communication

-          Training and conducting formal/informal presentations

-          Reading and interpreting federal, state, and Arizona Board of Nursing agency rules, regulations and procedures

-          Building and maintaining interpersonal relationships


Ability to:

-          Work in a prison environment

-          Investigate, assess, and monitor occupational injuries/incidents

-          Maintain confidentiality of occupational health records

-          Conduct research and prepare reports


-          Minimum of three full years of nursing experience related to infection control, public health, employee health, or general acute nursing care


Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and drug test*.

SALARY:  The salary will be established based on full years of experience.  Candidates who are job offered shall complete the State of Arizona Application for Employment form to document applicable experience and determine placement in salary matrix.


Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). 

Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
