JOB SUMMARY:

The Claims Specialist II position is part of the Arizona Department of Child Safety's Tucson Adoption Subsidy Program and is responsible for processing legal and other claims submitted on behalf of special needs children who were adopted from the foster care system. This position is also responsible for service authorizations in the automated system used by the program (CHILDS).

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Processes complex medical, dental, and other eligible claims submitted on behalf of special needs children who were adopted from the foster care system. Responsible for timely and accurate processing of all claims for tutoring, medical services, respite services, dental services, and certain parental reimbursements.

-          Validates claims for accuracy in payment rates and units of service using applicable fee schedules to ensure claims are paid on time.

-          Establishes and maintains positive relationships with the health care provider community and the adoptive parents of the child for whom claims are submitted.

-          Maintains a current and working knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding.

-          Maintains detailed and accurate record-keeping for client files.

-          Processes service authorizations in the automated system used by the program (CHILDS).

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Creating/designing statistical reports and narrative summary reports

Skill in:

-          Verbal and written communication

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Interviewing

-          Microsoft Excel and Access computer programs

-          Basic accounting principles and procedures

-          Detailed and accurate record-keeping

Ability to:

-          Work independently, create/design statistical reports and narrative summary reports

-          Learn and apply general specific knowledge, experience, and/or background in foster and adoptive home recruitment and special needs adoption, particularly from the foster care system.

-          Maintain good relationships with the health care provider community and the adoptive parents of the child for whom claims are submitted

-          Learn medical terminology and coding

PRE EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.
