This is a temporary position with the State of Arizona, Department of Economic Security, not to exceed 1,500 hours by December 31, 2020.   Temporary positions are benefits eligible and receive pay for State observed holidays.

The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Wage Audit Notice Deputy. This position is responsible for conducting wage audits of selected unemployment insurance claims to determine the accuracy of payments, contact employers for any outstanding responses, and complete data entry into specific programs to show outcomes of responses received.

Job Duties:

-          Adjudicates more complex or difficult cases involving non-monetary determinations, fraud investigations and penalty application.

-          Completes weekly/monthly reports as assigned, including workload status reports.

-          Occasionally acts as the Unit Supervisor in his/her absence or acting as lead/mentor for the unit.

-          Review New Hire wage audit forms and quarterly cross match audits.

-          Review the Guide system, enter new hire wage audit wage information into BARTS, mark documents worked in OnBase.

-          Handle incoming calls from claimants and Department agents.

-          Clears and sets issues, in appropriate situations and processes UB259’s when assigned

-          Contacts employers or claimants when necessary to obtain missing information.

-          Processes claimant requests for fact finding or appeals.

-          Acts as backup to BARTS administrator and attend s appeals hearings when necessary.

-          Performs other duties as required, such as participating on special projects or representing the unit when changes occur that involve system upgrades.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-          Knowledge of the functions performed by Claims and Inquiry deputies.

-          Thorough knowledge of the principles and issues in adjudicating UI claims.

-          Thorough knowledge of administrative law proceedings that apply to investigation of eligibility issues

-          Skill in writing legal determinations affecting claimants’ eligibility and charges to an employer tax account on behalf of the Department.

-          Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs.

-          Knowledge of preparing reports to identify daily work assignments and completeness of cases assigned.

-          One year of unemployment insurance claims taking or adjudication experience.

-          Above average verbal and writing skills to express situations coherently.

-          Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision.

-          Ability to interpret rules, regulations and laws.

Licenses and Certifications:

-          High School Diploma or equivalent

-          Access to a reliable, high speed internet connection required



Preferred Qualifications:

-          At least 1-year experience in customer service preferred

-          At least 1-year experience handling outgoing and incoming telephone inquiries preferred  

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
