Are you ready to help reshape and reinvent Arizona health care?  The Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) is going beyond basic health care to a health care program integrated across the entire continuum of care.


DCS is looking for a Registered Nurse with both bedside and clinical management experience to manage the day-to-day operations of a prior authorizations team and to facilitate/coordinate other utilization management activities.


**The Comprehensive Medical and Dental Program (CMDP) is the health plan responsible for ensuring, in partnership with foster care providers, the provision of appropriate and quality health care services for the well-being of Arizona's children in foster care**


-          Oversee and evaluate clinical and non-clinical staff performance; provide coaching, counseling, employee development, and recognition; and assist with selection, orientation and mentoring of new CMDP staff

-          Participate and lead teams in the development, implementation, and evaluation of CMDP policies, complete AHCCCS Deliverables, administrative policies, technical assistance tools, performance measures, performance improvement projects, audits and studies based upon AHCCCS requirements

-          Provide technical assistance to the CMDP leadership team; monitor and oversee preferred drug list; prior authorization matrix and dental/orthodontic matrix, assist with member handbook and provider and member newsletters


Knowledge of:

-          DCS policies, procedures, and current State Federal and local laws governing AHCCCS/Medicaid health plan operations and requirements

-          Healthcare administration as it relates to children in foster care

-          Clinical standards and quality of care

-          Utilization management and review

-          Excellent verbal and written communication

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Clinical problem solving and technical writing

-          Clinical management and leadership practices

Ability to:

-          Plan, organize and administer clinical care coordination within Arizona’s systems of care and related agencies

-          Maintain up-to-date knowledge of agency and department policies and procedures

-          Understand the importance of and respect for the confidentiality of member information in accordance with applicable standards and regulations

-          Clearly identify problems, analyze situations, and rectify concerns 

-          Work under pressure in a high pace environment


-          Current, active AZ RN license; in good standing with AZ Nursing Board.

-          Requires the possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).  Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed. 

-          Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.

-          Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

-          Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card.


-          Certified Professional in utilization review and medical case management; experience working in managed care environment; supervisory experience.
