OFFICE OF THE ARIZONA ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Civil Litigation Division/Bankruptcy and Collections Enforcement Section is seeking a Legal Secretary II to support the State Court attorneys and paralegal in pre-litigation collection enforcement and post-judgment remedies.   This position will prepare correspondence and a variety of legal pleadings, motions, petitions, briefs, and other legal documents and file pleadings with the appropriate court.

 

REQUIREMENTS

·       Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge needed:

·       Knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms and documents, court procedures, and applicable time-frames.

·       Knowledge of sequence of process and procedures of civil litigation and post-judgment remedies.

·       Grammar, punctuation, spelling, basic editing, formats of wide variety of legal documents, rules and procedures of Arizona State, local and federal courts.

·       The principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques common to a modern law office.

·       Understanding of attorney/client relationship, including the need for confidentiality and discretion.

·       Knowledge of various computer programs, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

Skills needed:

·       Skilled in handling detailed work with accuracy and speed.

·       Skilled in a wide range of administrative support functions.

·       Skilled in monitoring legal requirements and deadlines.

·       Good interpersonal relationship skills.

·       Able to manage and handle a heavy work load under pressure with multiple deadlines.

·       Good oral and written communication skills.

·       Skill in composing various complex legal pleadings, other legal documents, memoranda and correspondence.

·       Skilled in researching and extracting information from statutes, codes, legal documents and court decisions.

·       Good word processing skills; able to type 50-60 words per minute.

Abilities needed:

·       Individual must work well in challenging and fast paced work environment, respond well to changing priorities and regularly demonstrate a professional, positive and supportive attitude.

·       Ability to operate word processing for preparation of legal documents and correspondence.

·       Ability to track actions in various courts.

·       Ability to utilize automated case management systems and follow office procedures for maintaining and tracking records and files.

·       Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform varied tasks and track multiple deadlines simultaneously.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

·       Ideal Candidates will have a minimum two years of litigation and/or post-judgment experience.
