The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currentlyrecruiting for a part-time Public Health Sanitarian II for the Animal ServicesDivision Egg Program.  The position islocated in Maricopa, Arizona.  Thesuccessful candidate will work approximately 3/10 hour days per week, toinclude weekends and holidays.  Work dayswill rotate from week to week. 



The successful candidate will perform substantialenvironmental sanitation inspections of commercial processing at the UnitedStates Department of Agriculture (USDA) Shell Egg Plants, transportation andstorage facilities for products intended for human use and consumption.   Induces compliance with applicable statues,rules and regulations; inspect sites and enforce statues in sensitivesituations.  Lifts up to sixty pounds on a regular basis; test egg and egg products bycollecting samples, candles eggs for quality, grade, weight and color.  Checks cooler temperatures and labeling ofeggs and egg products, and retains product not meeting USDA standards.  Grades eggs at the USDA Shell Egg Plants;verifies sanitation and facility standards with a pre-operational sanitationinspection and continues to observe operations and sanitation throughout theday.    Performs lot grades, and retainsproduct not meeting USDA standards. Prepares USDA certificates, keeps USDAfiles, communicates with plant officials and remains up-to-date on all newissuances from USDA and other duties as assigned.  Work schedules and hours are subject to changeand you may be required to work more than 30 hours a week on occassion. 


The Animal Services Division is willing to train theright individual for the position.


Knowledge of:

Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 and the Egg ProductInspection Act of 1970

Regulations governing the voluntary grading of shell eggs7CFR Part 56

United States standards, grades and weight classes forshell eggs AM56

Rule, regulations, principals and practices of publichealth sanitation, including food processing and handling insect and rodentcontrol

Training at a USDA Egg Products Plant and USDA GradersLicense

Computers and computer software programs; such as Excel,Microsoft Word, and Outlook


Skills in:

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effectivecourse of action

Oral/written communication

Prepare clear and concise technical reports

Apply and interpret federal and state laws, rules,regulations and policies governing inspection activities and safety practices

Egg candling

Interpersonal skills in dealing with internal andexternal customers

Ability to:

Work independently with little supervision

Maintain confidentiality and integrity proprietyformulations

Adapt quickly tochange and deliver quality in a timely manner

Prioritize work load while meeting all deadlines

Flex with work schedule

Work with a diverse group of internal and externalcustomers


Must possess or obtain USDA license as a USDA shell egggrader

Agriculture Science or other related field may besubstituted for work related experience


Selective Preferences:

Basic NIMS and ICS training in Emergency Management

Experience in shell egg candling

Pervious industry experience and USDA licenses

Thorough knowledge of Egg Products Control Law (3-701thru 3-739)

The ability to candle eggs
