The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA) is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard. The Army National Guard is "Always Ready - Always There" providing military forces to accomplish community, state and federal missions. The Air National Guard maintains excellence with flexible, sustainable, expeditionary and joint interoperable capabilities in all facets of current federal and state missions. The Division of Emergency Management’s mission is to coordinate emergency services and efforts to governmental agencies to reduce the impact of disaster on person and property. The Division of Administrative Services maintains the business operations of human resources, finance, purchasing/contracting, and legislative activities. Many positions posted do not require military membership.

 

BUILDING MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

PAY RATE:  Up to $ 19.4826 per hour (DOE)

State Grade 17

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

WORK LOCATION: Camp Navajo, Bellemont, AZ

 

Position Description:

The Building Maintenance Specialist maintains and repairs buildings and their related utility service systems. Participates throughout the initial-through-completion stages of remodeling and construction projects. Collaborates with the Physical Plant Supervisor in the planning, estimating, costing and ordering of materials; detects and resolves work stoppages; assures all work complies with National and Local building codes and safety laws and rules. Responsible for ensuring compliance with procedures, policies, work, work method; and the safety of assigned personnel and assigned equipment. Serves as pest control back up in the absence of the primary entomologist. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Determines condition of facilities and decides on repairs or replacements to be made and accomplishes work needed. Performs routine preventative maintenance for munitions storage this includes: electrical, mechanical, pneumatics duties. Maintains administrations and facility support buildings and warehouses.

  • Makes periodic and special inspections of facilities according to a schedule or according to work orders. Works on service systems such as pneumatics, mechanical, plumbing and electrical. Assist with small carpentry projects and environmental control systems.

  • Determines equipment and materials required for work.  Maintains inventory use of tools and materials informing supervisor of any needs and/or shortages.  Keeps records through notes and computer based record keeping  tracking supplies and ordering materials.

  • Understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, maps and records regarding past and/or present CN projects. 

  • Writes reports and completes work orders regarding activities, transactions and progress covering a specified time period or project completion. 

  • Assists in performing pest management duties to include rodent and vector control in the absence of the entomologist.

Special Job Requirements:

This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training. State of Arizona driver's license.  In-State travel required.  Individual is required to pass a criminal background investigation.  Requires the ability to achieve a favorable National Agency Check with Investigation for purpose of obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC).  Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Secret" security clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Desired Qualifications:  

Knowledge of:

  • Hand tools, power tools, equipment and building materials related to construction and maintenance.

  • Methods and practices of maintaining, remodeling, installing and replacing associated utility services in construction.

  • All aspects of construction, blueprints, schematics, sketches, structural components of buildings.

  • Pneumatic systems and environmental controls.

  • Ordering materials used in projects.

  • Basic computer use and software programs.

  • Local building codes and OSHA standards.

Skilled in: 

  • Use common and specialized tools, equipment and materials.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and schematics related to building and related utility service systems.

  • Apply local building codes.

  • Estimating, costing and ordering materials; 

  • Communicating effectively.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Service of equipment, related service systems and utilities.

Ability to: 

  • Perform work safely using proper body mechanics.

  • Adhere to OSHA standards.

  • Troubleshoot and use critical thinking and problem solving techniques.

  • Work with minimal or no supervision. Excellent hand and eye coordination. 

  • Create and maintain interpersonal relationships.

  • Read, understand and communicate effectively in the English language.

The desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities described. Preferred candidate/s will possess a minimum 5 years of experience in the construction industry involving remodeling and new construction activities.
