JOB SUMMARY


The Transportation Development Engineer evaluates, reviews, and conducts scheduling analysis of project schedules.  


Typical duties include but are not limited to:


  • Review Critical Path Method (CPM), resource driven customized schedules based on contract documents and input received from project teams. Evaluate project schedules, resources needs, resource leveling, performance measurement, and report to management

  • Analyze activity logic, updates and project schedule status, monitor progress and critical path, compare with target baselines, report variances and communicate status to construction project teams at progress review meetings. Assist teams identify strategies to assist in delivery of projects on time and within the approved target budget

  • Facilitate quality assurance and internal improvements of schedule review processes 

  • Analyze and evaluate user's technical questions, provide solutions, and answer questions. 


  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Project development or construction process for highway projects

  • Current project scheduling tools and techniques


Skills in:


  • Utilization of project scheduling software including activity and logic development, critical path method analysis, resource loading, target and variance analysis and reporting

  • Creating and reviewing complex networks

  • Utilizing project management and scheduling applications: Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word

  • Working as a team, communication, listening, interpersonal and analytical skills


Ability to:


  • Research, read, and interpret a variety of technical information and documents

  • Discuss and evaluate new proposals for complex applications with users and prepare detailed specifications for automated procedures

  • Coordinate and evaluate activities within a project including time, cost schedule and quality review points


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field. Five years’ work experience creating, evaluating, or maintaining Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules using Primavera software. Knowledge of the Primavera scheduling software can be gained by taking courses from Primavera certified instructor.


REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.  Candidates for this position must complete page 5 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).  The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).  The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.  Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
