OFFICE OF THE ARIZONA ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office State Government Division/Licensing and Enforcement Section is seeking an Assistant Attorney General. This position will provide representation to licensing agencies and prosecutes hearings and court actions regarding denials of licenses and allegations of misconduct that may result in discipline against a licensee.  This representation includes, but is not limited to, advice; training; interviewing clients and witnesses; reviewing documents; coordinating and assessing evidence; conducting legal research; preparing pleadings, motions, and all other documents necessary for proper conduct of an action; conducting discovery; reviewing and analyzing cases for hearing or trial; appearing in hearings, arguments and trial; appearing before administrative decision makers and courts; and, advising clients about the work completed and the status of assigned cases and matters.

REQUIREMENTS

·         Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.

·         Admission to, and good standing with, the Arizona State Bar is required (include on resume the date(s) of admission in Arizona and any other states). Candidate must have an active Arizona State Bar license.

·         Attorney applicants are required to submit a writing sample with their resume/application profile.

Ø  Writing Sample Guidelines: The writing sample should contain an analysis of some substantive legal issue and provide insight concerning your ability to think and to explain and advocate for a particular position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge needed:

·         Knowledge of federal and state constitutions, statutes, and regulations pertaining to the various professional and occupational licensing agencies;

·         Knowledge of the civil and administrative procedural rules for the Office of Administrative Hearings, the superior court, and the courts of appeal;

·         Knowledge and experience in administrative and civil litigation;

·         Knowledge of ethical standards applicable to lawyers and public employees.

Skills needed:

·         Skill in communication and negotiation;

·         Skill in legal research and critical analysis;

·         Skill in oral presentation and persuasion;

·         Skill in legal writing;

·         Skill in anticipating consequences and preparing contingency plans.

Abilities needed:

·         Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and members of the public;

·         Ability to adapt readily to changing circumstances and to efficiently handle several matters simultaneously;

·         Ability to identify issues, analyze and articulate legal arguments, assess evidence and communicate options, arguments and conclusions;

·         Ability to effectively use skills of subordinate staff;

·         Ability to display courteous and professional behavior;

·         Ability to apply professional ethical rules in daily practice;

·         Ability to exercise good judgment in making strategic decision in cases and in providing legal advice to clients;

·         Ability to travel within and outside Arizona, including overnight stays.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

·         Ideal Candidates will have litigation experience in the areas related to the practice of medicine.  Experience in administrative law is preferred.
